I am Billy, a white, Irish, cis gender man. I’ve been working in the field of psychotherapy since 2003. I am committed to this profession as I have personally experienced the way change is possible and how this process supports individuals to live more vibrant and fulfilling lives. I hold that hope and nurture this possibility for each person I work with.

I am an experienced, registered and accredited Gestalt psychotherapist and supervisor. I also work as an embodied practitioner-researcher, published writer and creator, as a way of committing myself to challenging ongoing personal and professional development. I am an educator involved in the training of psychotherapists and supervisors in Ireland (Gestalt institute of Ireland) and internationally. I am on the editorial board of an international peer review journal: Gestalt Review, and the Gestalt Therapy Book Series.

My experience

I have a wide range of experience working with heterosexual and LGBTQI+ individuals, couples and groups who are feeling stuck, finding life a struggle or suffering psychologically. The way I work is informed by critically assessing the most recent psychotherapeutic research on a wide range of psychological and mental health concerns. As a certified trainer and practitioner of Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy, a relational and movement oriented psychotherapy, I also have the expertise to work in depth with individuals who have experienced hurt in the early years of life or have suffered because of more recent traumatic life events.

As a Gestalt psychotherapist, the here and now therapeutic relationship between you and I is central to our work. There is ample evidence, which demonstrates that healing and growth for clients is determined by the quality of the therapeutic relationship.

I am bound by and honour the code of ethics of the professional bodies and organisations that I am registered and accredited by (MIAHIP, UKCP, EAP). I am a board member of for the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy, and member of European Association for Gestalt Therapy and Metanoia Insitute. Whatever your interest, I invite you to reach out to me, so we can arrange a time for an initial exploratory session.
